The Apology
Mark stared at the screen, then looked back down at the blue bowl, and finally at the trash can containing the rest of the ruined carton.
“So… you’re telling me I threw away a brand-new carton of eggs because they were too fresh?” he asked quietly.
“Exactly,” I said, handing him an empty grocery bag. “The white stuff is a sign of high quality. It disappears completely when you cook it, and it’s 100% safe to eat.”
Mark sighed, fished the untainted carton back out of the clean garbage bin, and offered a sheepish smile. “Alright. Lesson learned. I’ll make the toast while you rescue breakfast.”
